Tehran (EFE).- On Thursday, the Iranian Armed Forces reported that they have carried out an attack on positions of Kurdish groups in Iraqi Kurdistan, marking a new phase in a conflict that has reached its sixth day. “The Khatam al-Anbiya Base, the central command of the Iranian Armed Forces, reported that we have launched three missiles against the barracks of opposing Kurdish groups in Iraqi Kurdistan,” IRNA reported. This attack follows a conversation between US President Donald Trump and Kurdish leaders regarding US bases in northern Iraq. White House representative Karoline Leavitt stated that «it is incorrect that weaponry is being provided to Kurdish forces with the intention of provoking an uprising in Iran,» following rumours to that effect. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi met with Kurdish leaders whom he urged to “strengthen cooperation to ensure security at the borders.” Iran classifies the Komala and the Kurdish Democratic Party, which oppose the Islamic Republic, as terrorist groups and has carried out bombings on their bases in Iraq several times in recent years. The Kurds constitute the largest ethnic minority without their own state, with a population of approximately 30 million individuals primarily located in Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and Syria.
