Trump calls Spain a «loser» and says that Sánchez’s government «does not work as a team.»

In a telephone interview with the tabloid The New York Post, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, referred to Spain as a «loser» and expressed his disagreement with the government of Pedro Sánchez, stating that «it does not collaborate as a team» due to its opposition to the war in Iran. Trump commented that he considers Spain «hostile towards NATO» and «to everyone» for its reluctance to increase its defence spending. The Republican leader stated: «It does not collaborate as a team, and we will not collaborate as a team with Spain either.» Trump expanded his criticisms towards the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, claiming that «he cannot be compared to Winston Churchill» and expressed his discontent with «his response» to the «attack on a hostile nation» by the US. These discrepancies in discourse have arisen following Trump’s threat to sever all trade ties with Spain due to its lack of support in the military campaign against Iran. The differences between Spain and the United States regarding military action persisted with a new episode, as Madrid rejected the White House’s statement asserting that it had chosen to collaborate with the US Armed Forces.
