The UN warns of the global economic and environmental repercussions of the war in Iran.

Volker Türk, the UN human rights chief, warned that the rise in violence in the Middle East, triggered by the attacks from the United States and Israel against Iran, could have global economic and environmental consequences. He also called for de-escalation of the situation. The High Commissioner expressed his sorrow over the disregard for certain fundamental values that has emerged in the conflict and urged global leaders to commit to upholding international humanitarian law and the United Nations Charter. He called on the countries involved to take actions that reduce tension and allow for an opportunity for peace, as well as on other countries to demand that the parties involved step back.
