Thousands of women are demonstrating across Spain in defence of equality and against male violence.

Protests for International Women’s Day are taking place in several cities across Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Bilbao. These demonstrations, organised by the feminist movement, are occurring on a day marked by cold and rain, with a message of peace. Calls will be held in different cities due to differences within the feminist movement concerning the abolition of prostitution and the trans law. However, all the demonstrations share demands for equality and the cessation of gender-based violence. This year, there is a sense in the manifestos and slogans of a global context marked by conflicts, migrations, and governments that restrict women’s rights.
