Antonio Costa says that the US decision to lift the ban on Russian oil «impacts» European security.

Brussels.- This Friday, the European Union expressed its concern over the decision by the United States to temporarily lift sanctions on Russian oil that is already en route, due to the repercussions on European security and the fact that this will provide funding to Moscow for its military aggression against Ukraine. European entities highlighted that the decision by the United States contrasts with the pressure and sanctions imposed by the Twenty-Seven on Russia. The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, considered the decision by the US Department of the Treasury to temporarily lift sanctions on Russian oil that is already in transit, stating that this action affects Europe’s security. Costa asserted that increasing economic pressure on Russia is essential for it to commit to negotiations towards a just and sustainable peace. He also mentioned that reducing the sanctions imposed on Moscow increases Russia’s resources to continue its war of aggression against Ukraine.
