Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security, stated that the Strait of Hormuz does not fall under NATO’s competencies, although they are exploring alternatives with the UN to ensure its navigability. Kallas mentioned that they have communicated with NATO in the past, but this is not within NATO’s competencies and there are no NATO nations in the Strait of Hormuz.
The EU says that Hormuz is outside NATO’s scope and is discussing options with the UN.
