The king’s words about the conquest of America divide the parties.

The king’s statements on the conquest of America have been a topic in the political news this Tuesday. The Government has backed Felipe VI’s remarks, which the left considers insufficient, while the PP has requested appropriate context and Vox has defended Spain’s actions at that time. Political parties have commented on the words of King Felipe VI, in which he mentioned that there was abuse during the conquest of America and that certain events, when analysed with current perspective, cannot make us feel pride, although they should be understood in their context. The Government supports the statements, according to the Government spokesperson, Elma Saiz. During the press conference following the Council of Ministers, she was asked whether this stance was agreed upon between Zarzuela and Moncloa, and if it could facilitate the attendance of the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, at the Ibero-American Summit in Madrid. Saiz indicated that they support the comments and expressed her desire for the summit to include participation from international leaders, given the relevance and current context.
