The impact of the war on prices: diesel in Spain has already risen by 28% and fertilisers by 50%

Madrid. This Tuesday, the Minister of Economy, Carlos Cuerpo, stated that the «main challenge» since the beginning of the conflict in Iran is the increase in petrol prices, which have risen by 16%; diesel, which has gone up by 28%; and fertilisers, which have increased by between 40 and 50%. The Minister of Trade and Business highlighted this in the press conference following the Council of Ministers, where he emphasised that the economic situation is different from that experienced at the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022, and added that Spain is better prepared and more sheltered. The minister pointed out that «we are aware of the impact that this price increase has on the finances of our citizens and businesses,» emphasising vulnerable sectors such as transport, logistics, agriculture, fishing, and industries that consume more energy.
