Madrid. This Wednesday, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that his country is receiving military supplies, although in smaller quantities due to the conflict in Iran. He emphasised that there is no other option to reinforce Ukraine’s defence than the €90 billion loan from the EU, currently blocked by Hungary. Zelensky was welcomed at the Palace of Moncloa by the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, who announced that the €1 billion Spain will allocate this year for military assistance to Ukraine will be used to increase production in the defence sector. Zelensky stated at a joint press conference with Sánchez that shipments are still arriving, albeit in smaller amounts. He specified that there is a shortage of anti-aircraft missiles due to the competition with other nations that also require them in the context of the conflict in the Middle East. The President of Ukraine commented that he is in discussions with European leaders about Ukraine’s defensive needs and the actions to be taken in the event of a supply shortage. This Thursday, a summit of EU leaders will begin in Brussels, where the €90 billion loan to Ukraine, approved by the Twenty-Seven in December, will be discussed, but which has yet to be executed due to Hungary’s veto.
Zelensky warns that Ukraine is already receiving fewer military supplies due to the war in Iran.
