Sánchez leaves it uncertain whether the Government will present the budgets in March.

The leader of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has hinted that he may not present the draft law of the general state budget for 2026 this March and that he might do so later to concentrate efforts on the plan of measures in response to the war in Iran. Sánchez talked about this situation during a press conference at the Palacio de la Moncloa, accompanied by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, following their meeting. When journalists asked him if the preparation of the plan of measures in response to the crisis caused by the war in Iran could affect the Government’s decision to present the draft law of the budget this month, he did not specify, but emphasised that one of the most significant crises he has faced during his term is being managed. I believe it is essential for Spanish citizens to recognise the seriousness of the global situation, the suffering in Europe, and the repercussions we are experiencing, not only in terms of the loss of civilian lives and the displacement of millions in the Middle East but also in the socioeconomic impact this will have on our homes. In response to this, he reaffirmed that the Government would use all state resources to safeguard the population. The Executive had been stating that it would send the draft law of the budget for 2026 during the first quarter, meaning the deadline set is the upcoming 31st of March.
