Tehran, 23 March. This Monday, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that it has received communications through intermediaries from the United States requesting to initiate negotiations to end the conflict, although it emphasised that no talks are currently taking place. “In recent days, communications have been received from several allied countries in which Washington asked to begin negotiations to bring the conflict to an end. These requests were responded to appropriately and in line with the country’s principles,” stated the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ismail Bagaei, to the state agency IRNA. The diplomat denied that there had been any negotiations or conversations with the United States in the last 24 days of the imposed war and stressed that the position of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz and the conditions for ending the conflict remains unchanged. Bagaei stated that in the responses directed to the United States, warnings were issued regarding the repercussions of any attack on Iran’s infrastructure, emphasising that any action against Iranian energy facilities will be met with a response from the armed forces.
Iran admits to contacts with the United States, but denies that there are any discussions.
