Approved law on multiple reoffending with sentences of up to 3 years in prison for mobile phone theft.

This Thursday, the Congress approved the law to combat repeat offenders, a proposal from Junts that has received support from the PP, PSOE, Vox, PNV, and UPN. This legislation establishes penalties of up to three years in prison for the theft of mobile phones and increases the sanctions for those who reoffend in minor theft or fraud offences. The law was passed with 272 votes in favour, 71 against, and 7 abstentions, culminating a legislative process that began in 2024 and was reactivated in November last year following the separation of Carles Puigdemont’s party from the Government.
