Spain and the other NATO countries reached 2% of GDP in military spending in 2025.

Brussels (EFE).- Spain and the other NATO countries allocated at least 2% of their GDP to military spending in 2025, according to the Alliance’s annual report. In 2025, Spain allocated 2% of its GDP to defence, reaching 44.2% in capabilities, surpassed only by Luxembourg, Poland, Hungary and Lithuania. At the NATO summit in Wales in 2014, allies committed to spending 2% of their GDP over a ten-year period, a goal that was achieved last year. NATO indicated that since 2014, European allied countries and Canada have increased their defence spending, and in 2025 there was a 20% increase compared to 2024. Over the past 11 years, these increases represent more than one trillion US dollars additional allocated to defence. Portugal, Albania, Canada and Belgium also stand alongside Spain, with a spending of 2% of GDP.
