In his homily during the Mass of his first Palm Sunday, Pope Leo XIV called for peace by exclaiming: «Lay down your arms, do not forget that you are brothers!» in front of thousands of believers in Saint Peter’s Square. «Christ, the King of peace, continues to call from his cross: God is love! Show compassion! Lay down your arms, remember that you are brothers!» the pope urged during the commemoration of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. The pope emphasised that God opposes war and «cannot be used by anyone to justify conflict.» Robert Prevost highlighted that «Jesus, as the King of peace, wishes to unite the world in the embrace of the Father and to break down all barriers that distance us from God and our fellow men, as He ‘is our peace.'»
