Nicolás Maduro, the ousted president of Venezuela, along with his wife, MP Cilia Flores, called for peace and national unity. In a message released, they stated that they are «firm» and «calm.» This is the first statement they have issued since their capture in Caracas in January of this year. «It is important that we continue to strengthen peace in the country, promoting national unity, reconciliation, forgiveness, and the coming together of all. No one should stray from the path of dialogue, coexistence, and respect,» stated Maduro and Flores. In the text, they expressed gratitude for the support received during their imprisonment. They also thanked the Venezuelan people for their strength and solidarity, highlighting the ability to maintain unity in the country. This is the first social media post signed by Maduro and Flores since their detention on 3rd January.
