The Government has decided to close its airspace to flights from the United States involved in the operation against Iran, leading to a conflict in the Middle East. Spain prohibits US aircraft from using the air bases in Rota and Morón de la Frontera, and prevents these planes, deployed in other European countries, from accessing Spanish airspace, according to reports from El País and confirmed by sources from the Ministry of Defence to EFE. Spain’s opposition to the use of the bases has increased tensions between the two nations and led the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to criticise Spain. However, the Spanish government has maintained its position in the face of Trump’s warnings about the possibility of imposing a trade embargo, after Spain refused to allow the use of military bases for operations against Tehran.
