The hearing scheduled by Judge Juan Carlos Peinado this Holy Wednesday to advance in the case of Begoña Gómez related to the popular jury has had the same outcome as the previous two: the parties involved did not show up, the prosecutor and the defence requested the case to be archived, while the popular accusations asked for the process to continue. This Wednesday’s hearing lasted two and a half hours; it is the third of its kind convened by Judge Peinado, following the request from the Provincial Court of Madrid to group all the offences being investigated into a single case and to justify his decision that a popular jury should be responsible for judging the facts if it goes to trial. This is the second time Judge Peinado has called for testimony in this case on a Holy Wednesday; the previous year he moved to Moncloa to interrogate the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños, as a witness.
The view of Begoña Gómez’s case is repeating: The prosecutor requests the case to be dismissed and the charges to continue.
