A man has been arrested for killing his partner in El Puerto de Santa María.

The National Police have arrested a man following the discovery of his partner’s body in a house in El Puerto de Santa María, a case that is being investigated as a possible gender-based crime. Sources linked to the investigation have confirmed that this individual has been arrested and stated that it is necessary to wait for an autopsy of the body to determine the reasons for the woman’s death, who was 44 years old. The emergency services 112 reported that they received an alert to assist a woman in a house in the Los Romanos area of El Puerto, and that the paramedics could only certify her death. The Government Delegation against Gender Violence has stated on the social network X that it is gathering information about the murder of this woman, which is suspected to be related to gender violence. If this death is confirmed as a case of gender violence, the total number of women killed for this reason would reach 11 in 2026, making this the second female victim in Cádiz so far this year, following the murder of a woman in Olvera in January. Since 2003, when these statistics began to be recorded, the total number would rise to 1,354. The 016 hotline is available 24 hours a day for all victims of gender violence, offering assistance in 53 languages. Additionally, they can be contacted via email at 016-online@igualdad.gob.es.
