A US jury finds Meta and YouTube guilty of social media addiction.

Los Angeles (USA) This Wednesday, a jury in Los Angeles found Meta and YouTube liable for impacting young people’s mental health in a case related to social media addiction, which will require them to pay a compensation of three million dollars. The legal proceedings began in late January in the Los Angeles Superior Court, following a lawsuit filed by a 20-year-old woman who claimed to have developed an addiction to applications like Instagram and YouTube during her childhood. The two platforms will have to pay three million dollars in compensation for damages and other economic losses. According to the court ruling, Meta must cover 70% of that cost, while YouTube will be responsible for the remaining percentage. The jury in this trial, made up of seven women and five men, will continue its deliberations to determine what additional compensations the companies should pay.
