Granada (EFE).- This Wednesday, the storm Leonardo will bring rain and winds across the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with an emphasis on Galicia and Andalusia. In some areas of Cádiz and Málaga, more than 200 litres of rain could be recorded, while in Granada and Jaén, it is expected to exceed 150 litres. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has raised the warning level to red for Wednesday due to rainfall in the Straits (Cádiz), which poses a risk, in addition to the alerts that are already active in the areas of Grazalema (Cádiz) and Ronda (Málaga). According to Aemet, precipitation is expected to accumulate up to 120 litres per square metre within an hour, and it is more likely in the Algeciras area, with estimates suggesting a total of 150 litres/m2 over a 24-hour period. The red alert will be in effect from 05:00 to 14:59 on Wednesday, prompting the Andalucía Emergency Service 112 to advise precautions and to avoid travel. Regarding Grazalema and Ronda, the red alert will be active from 00:00 to 23:59, during which time accumulations of 150 litres per square metre could be recorded over a 12-hour period and 200 litres per square metre over 24 hours. Due to the rain, more than 3,000 people living in flood-prone areas in the provinces of Cádiz, Jaén, and Málaga were evacuated as a precaution during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, in anticipation of an increase in river flow caused by the forecasted rainfall. Additionally, school activities have been cancelled in all provinces of Andalucía, except for Almería. Last night, Civil Protection issued a message via ES-Alert to warn residents in the Los Puentes areas of the need for caution due to the risk of flooding from rising river levels.
