An Iranian opposition group estimates that over 3,000 people have died in the protests.

The People’s Mujahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) estimates that more than 3,000 people have lost their lives in the protests in Iran since late December due to repression by the authorities. The PMOI reports that between December 28 and January 11, over 3,000 «martyrs» have been recorded in 195 cities across Iran. The organisation maintains that this information comes from investigations conducted using local sources, hospitals, forensic services, and families of those affected.
