Antonio Tejero, the Civil Guard who was the protagonist of the attempted coup on 23F, has passed away.

Antonio Tejero, the former lieutenant colonel of the Civil Guard who led the attempted coup d’état on 23 February, has passed away this Wednesday in Alzira at the age of 93, as confirmed by the law firm representing his family. His death comes two days after the 45th anniversary of the 23F and on the same day that the Government has made public the documents related to the coup d’état of 23 February 1981. Today, one of the sons of the former lieutenant colonel has made an announcement regarding his death. «With sadness, I wish to inform you that today, 25 February 2026, my father, Antonio Tejero Molina, has passed away surrounded by all his children.» After having received the last rites and the blessing of His Holiness Leo XIV, I express my gratitude to God for his life dedicated to God, Spain and his family. I ask that a prayer be offered for his eternal rest.
