Brussels warns that Iran’s situation «is not Europe’s war» and rejects sending military assets to Hormuz.

Brussels, this Monday, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the European Union decided not to extend the mandate of their naval mission ‘Aspides’ in the Strait of Hormuz and called for a reduction of tension in the region. The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, Kaja Kallas, stated at a press conference following a meeting of the community ministers’ council that «this is not Europe’s war» and added that «Europe has no interest in a conflict». She also highlighted that «we are not the ones who started this war and the political objectives are unclear.» Estonia’s politician acknowledged that «Europe’s interests are at stake» in this conflict and that «Iran is waging war against the global economy.» «The ministers reiterated today that our priority is de-escalation and freedom of navigation,» she emphasised.
