Carmen, aged 90, and her children Agustín and Mari Carmen died in the early hours of this Friday due to a fire in Carmen’s apartment, located in the Carabanchel neighbourhood of Madrid. Emergency services found the bodies of the two siblings in the bathroom and that of the elderly woman in a different room. The incident occurred around two in the morning on the third floor of Moreno Street, near the Carabanchel National Police Station. It is a four-storey building in a development built approximately 20 years ago, where more than one hundred residents live. On the third floor of staircase number 3 lived Carmen and her son Agustín, who had a disability. Mari Carmen had come to spend a few days with her mother and brother. The reasons for the fire are under investigation. The windows were closed, and there was a reinforced door that was difficult for firefighters to open. Some neighbours heard noises and saw firefighters breaking the glass of the windows. Some people noticed smoke that affected the residents of the upper attic, who required medical attention due to smoke inhalation.
Carmen and her two children died trapped by the flames in the early hours of the morning in Madrid.
