The General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies has requested that precautions be taken due to the forecast of snowfall and rain in several regions of Spain until 6 January. This situation occurs in the context of the storm ‘Francis’ and a drop in temperatures. According to the forecast from the State Meteorological Agency, Francis is located to the west of the peninsula and will move towards the Gulf of Cádiz, bringing with it a subtropical air mass over the Peninsula. From 3 January, an Arctic air stream will begin to infiltrate the Peninsula, creating a corridor of north winds. Rain is anticipated in the southern and eastern regions of the peninsula. With the arrival of the Arctic cold air mass, it is expected that, starting from Sunday, snowfall will be recorded at low altitudes in the northern and eastern halves of the peninsula, as well as in some central areas. According to a statement from Civil Protection, it is advised to keep track of updates in the forecasts.
Civil Protection urges to exercise extreme caution due to the storm Francis, the cold, and the snow.
