The Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, expressed his administration’s concern about the explosions in Caracas and other areas of Venezuela, which Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro described as a military aggression by the United States. Petro stated in a message on his X account that the Colombian government is worried about reports of explosions and unusual aerial activity in Venezuela, as well as the rising tension in the region. Previously, the Colombian leader asserted that Caracas was being attacked and emphasised that the OAS and the UN should be convened to address the situation. Petro reported an increase in security measures along the border with Venezuela to prepare for a possible influx of refugees from that country, following the US attack on Caracas and other localities, as well as the detention of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. «The public force is being mobilised at the border, and we are activating all the assistance we have available in anticipation of a possible arrival of refugees,» Petro expressed in a message on his X account, where he indicated that he had been monitoring the situation in Venezuela during a security meeting.
Colombia, Cuba, Iran and Russia condemn the attacks in Venezuela, while Milei celebrates the capture of Maduro.
