Costa: The common stance of the EU is to call for the end of the war and to defend multilateralism.

António Costa, President of the European Council, declared that the EU’s position regarding the conflict in the Middle East is to advocate for an end to hostilities and to promote respect for international law and multilateralism, during an interview with EFE and other European agencies. In a week to determine the reaction of the Twenty-Seven to the rising violence due to the US and Israel’s offensive against Iran, Costa sought to convey a message of cohesion among the members of the community. The European Union promotes respect for international law, supports multilateralism, and calls on all parties to refrain from continuing this war, providing an opportunity for diplomacy to address various issues. He mentioned that the EU also maintains a unified stance against Iran developing nuclear capabilities and condemns the Tehran regime for its aggressions towards its neighbours in the Middle East and the Gulf countries, as well as for its advocacy of freedom of navigation.
