Cuba is gradually recovering after 24 hours from the second nationwide blackout in a week.

Cuba is experiencing a recovery from the second national blackout that took place this week, being the seventh in a period of a year and a half. Power has been restored in five of its 16 thermal power plants and in two generating stations, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mines. The thermal power plants of Santa Cruz and Guiteras have been reconnected to the National Electric System, along with the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes located in Cienfuegos, and those in Felton and Renté situated in the eastern region. Twenty-four hours after the power failure on the island, the National Electric System is interconnected from Pinar del Río to the province of Santiago de Cuba, according to Lisner Cruz, head of the national load dispatching of the state-owned company Unión Eléctrica. The province of Guantánamo remains to be connected to the National Electric System, where microsystems are in operation providing services. In Havana, electricity supply has been restored for approximately 70% of its users, prioritising the circuits that feed hospitals and water supply.
