The Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, declared that in her nation «the people have the power» and that «there is a Government, that of President Nicolás Maduro,» who was detained a week ago along with his wife, MP Cilia Flores, by US forces during a series of attacks. Rodríguez stated that the Venezuelan people are in control and that there is a Government, that of President Nicolás Maduro. She expressed that they will not cease in their condemnation of the «aggression» that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, January 3, which will be remembered «as a stain on the relations» between her nation and the United States. Rodríguez also emphasised that she will not stop until achieving the return of Maduro and Flores, who are detained in New York facing charges of drug trafficking and corruption. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, mentioned that he is likely to meet «very soon» with members of the interim Government of Venezuela, with whom he claimed to have a «good» relationship.
