Caracas (EFE).- This Monday, Delcy Rodríguez, the vice president of Venezuela, assumed the role of interim president of the country, two days after U.S. forces detained President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Deputy Cilia Flores, during attacks in Caracas and three states. Supported by her brother, the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, the official stated that she will not stop until peace is secured. Rodríguez expressed sorrow for the suffering of the Venezuelan people following a military aggression against the nation and denounced that Maduro and Flores are being held as hostages in the United States. Rodríguez also stated that she will not stop until Venezuela is recognised as a free, sovereign, and independent nation. She committed to ensuring a government that provides social welfare, political stability, and security. The vice president was called by the Supreme Court to assume the role of interim president of the country following the detention of Maduro and Flores.
