Denmark believes that the EU made a mistake by reducing defence spending and must rearm «now».

The Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, believes that European countries have made a mistake by reducing their defence investment. The tensions caused by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, have made it clear that they need to rearm, but not within ten years, rather immediately. Frederiksen emphasised the importance of acknowledging the current situation when discussing the US President’s comments about Greenland, during a conference at Sciences Po in Paris, where Greenland’s Prime Minister, Jens Frederik Nielsen, was present. She warned that if Europeans cannot protect themselves, they will have to face the highest cost. In her opinion, Europeans made a mistake by decreasing their defence investment, as Russia was increasing its spending and preparing for aggression, as has been seen in Ukraine, and because the message they were sending to the United States was that they preferred to allocate their resources to other purposes and that, in case of facing difficulties, they relied on Washington to intervene to help them.
