Madrid. This Tuesday, the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, announced that her ministry has formalised a new agreement for the administration of electronic monitoring devices for gender offenders, which will change from wristbands to ankle bracelets to enhance their reliability and prevent tampering. The new ankle bracelets will feature anti-vandal mechanisms, offer a longer battery life, and the tracking card will be non-removable. The new contract has been signed for an amount of 71 million euros and will last for three years with an option to extend to five. An ankle bracelet device has been chosen as it is considered a more reliable device by experts, and anti-vandal mechanisms will be included to make it safer.
