Farmers block roads and the Port of Tarragona over the agreement with Mercosur.

Farmers in Catalonia have closed the AP-7 motorway in Girona and other roads in the region, and have blocked access to the Port of Tarragona in protest against the trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur. The demonstrations organised by the group Revolta Pagesa mimic protests in France and other European nations in opposition to the agreement that will open the EU market to Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. A group of farmers blocked the AP-7 south of Figueres, the N-II road in Pontós, and the border crossing with France at Coll d’Ares. They claim that they will not leave until Spain withdraws from the treaty, which the countries must vote on tomorrow. At Coll d’Ares, tractors and people have gathered to block a passage that could serve as an alternative route to the neighbouring country. In addition, the N-230 in Pont de Suert; the A-2 in Bell-lloc d’Urgell and Mollerussa, in Lleida; as well as the entrances via the T-11 and A-27 to the Port of Tarragona have been closed. «We plan to have lunch, dinner, rest, have breakfast, and have lunch again here.»
