Feijóo calls for Juan Carlos I to return to Spain following the declassification of documents from the 23F.

Madrid, 26 February (EFE).- This Thursday, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, president of the Popular Party, expressed that it would be advisable for Juan Carlos I to return to Spain, now that documents related to the attempted coup d’état of 23 February have been made public. Feijóo stated on his X account that the release of the 23F documents should help Spaniards to reconcile with the person who stopped the coup attempt. The former king, who has been living in Abu Dhabi since 2020, has admitted to having made mistakes in his career, according to Feijóo. However, it has also been pointed out that he helped to maintain democracy in Spain. Feijóo has declared that Juan Carlos I contributed to preserving freedoms in the nation during a crucial moment, therefore he deserves to spend the final stage of his life with dignity and in his homeland. The request comes after the release, following an agreement from the Council of Ministers, of 153 documentary units. These cover everything from the transcription of phone calls from the coup plotter Antonio Tejero to reports from CESID. The publication of the 23F documents should help Spaniards reconcile with the person who stopped the coup attempt. I believe it would be positive for the former king to return to Spain.
