Alberto Núñez Feijóo, president of the Popular Party, stated that people in the street consider him «too soft» in his role as leader of the opposition. In an interview with La Vanguardia, he reflected on his four years at the helm of the Popular Party and responded to criticisms accusing him of adopting a more «aggressive» stance in opposition in recent years, despite having started by stating that his intention was not to insult Pedro Sánchez, but to defeat him. «I have maintained the statement that ‘I have not come to offend, I have come to win.’ In these twelve elections, Sánchez did not achieve any victory; it was the PNV and the PSC who won, not the PSOE,» he declared. «If you accompany me down the street, I guarantee that 80% of the people who approach me tell me that I am too soft,» commented Feijóo.
