Felipe VI calls for contributing to a «true democratic and peaceful transition» in Venezuela.

Madrid. This Friday, King Felipe VI requested collaboration in the establishment of a democratic transition that respects the sovereign will of the Venezuelan people, who must be the protagonists of their future. Don Felipe made this request during the closing of the Conference of Ambassadors, where he also expressed his satisfaction with the release of the five Spaniards imprisoned in Venezuela, as well as other citizens who were detained. The king expressed his solidarity with the Venezuelan people, highlighting the ties that Spain shares with them. He has expressed Spain’s support for international law, emphasising that its violation cannot be accepted, something that is frequently observed today. In this context, he has stressed that the countries which have advanced in creating a normative framework are the democracies, and that it is their responsibility to maintain a system based on norms, as opposed to one that relies on the use of force and is driven by exclusive interests. The king has highlighted that a world based on law, which fosters cooperation and dialogue, will be closer to achieving goals related to peace, stability, and development. For this reason, he stated that, given the current events, it is the time for diplomats, emphasising that global security is threatened, as evidenced in Palestine, Ukraine, and other nations. In light of this situation, he has requested that diplomats continue to promote international law, which he described as the ethical lantern that the international community has established to ensure peaceful and prosperous coexistence.
