Five public universities in Barcelona and Madrid among the 100 best in the world.

The Public University of Barcelona, the Autonomous University of the City of Barcelona, and Pompeu Fabra University, along with the Autonomous University and Complutense University of Madrid, are ranked among the top one hundred in the world, according to the QS Quacquarelli Symonds rankings for 2026. The University of Navarra has fallen to 101st place this year. Other institutions such as the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the University of Barcelona, and Carlos III University of Madrid have also seen their rankings drop in this list. Spain has 62 universities on this list, which covers 958 institutions from 42 countries, placing it fifth in Europe.
