Four leaders of Anonymous arrested in Spain for cyberattacks on public organisations

The Civil Guard has arrested four members of the hacker group ‘Anonymous Fénix’, which labels itself as part of the ‘Anonymous’ collective, for their involvement in cyberattacks on public entities, particularly following the tragedy of the DANA in Valencia. In May of last year, the Civil Guard arrested the administrator and a moderator of a group in Alcalá de Henares and Oviedo. Recently, two members of the group have also been detained in Ibiza and Móstoles, according to a statement from the Civil Guard. The group began its operations in April 2023, making an impact on the social network X and on Telegram, where they shared information against Spanish institutions and several South American countries. From September 2024, they intensified their activity with a campaign to recruit volunteers to carry out cyberattacks against domains. As a result of this action, a judicial intervention has taken place on the X profile and on the group’s YouTube account, and their Telegram channel has been shut down.
