Green light to limit institutional advertising in the media to 35%

This Tuesday, the Council of Ministers has approved a measure that limits institutional advertising in the media to 35%. The Government aims to make evident the amount of money allocated to advertising by the central administration of the State, the autonomous communities, and municipalities. The regulation presented by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Public Function before the Council of Ministers is part of the draft Public Sector Advertising Law, which is one of the reforms proposed in the Action Plan for Democracy, launched by the Government in September 2024. With this action, the Spanish legal framework is aligned with the European Regulation on Media Freedom, which came into effect on 8 August and applies in the 27 countries of the European Union.
