Hamas says that its government is «fully prepared» to hand over control in Gaza.

Gaza (EFE).- On Monday, the Islamist group Hamas declared that the governmental institutions in the Gaza Strip are ready to transfer control to an independent Palestinian committee that will manage the region, in accordance with the ceasefire plan promoted by United States President Donald Trump. In a video message, Hazem Qasim, Hamas spokesperson in Gaza, stated that the group has made a decision to transfer control of the governmental institutions in the Strip to a committee that will be established in the second phase of the truce, which is currently under negotiation. Qasim mentioned that the decision to relinquish control of the Gaza Strip is part of the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and prioritises national interest. The agreement stipulates that Gaza will be temporarily administered by a Palestinian technical committee, made up of Palestinians and international specialists, under the supervision of a Peace Board led by Trump. According to the spokesperson, Israel is reluctant to move on to the second phase due to internal considerations linked to the government coalition and power disputes within Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet. For this reason, he attributes the lack of progress in seeking a solution to end the war in the Gaza Strip to Israel, although he also mentions that Hamas has fulfilled all its responsibilities in relation to the first phase. Qasim asserts that Netanyahu’s strategies are of an internal nature and are tied to his electoral expectations, and he denounces that Israel is carrying out violations of the ceasefire and is preparing to return to war.
