Bangkok.- According to the Indonesian media outlet Metro TV, at least one person lost their life due to the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Thursday off the northeast coast of Indonesia, having been trapped under the rubble of a building that collapsed in the Manado region. Hours later, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center lifted the tsunami warning that had been issued following the earthquake, which caused injuries to several people and led to damage to buildings in cities near the epicentre. The earthquake struck at 22:48 GMT at a depth of 35 kilometres, with its epicentre in the Moluca Sea, over a hundred kilometres from two cities: 127 kilometres northwest of Ternate and 134 kilometres southeast of Bitung, according to the United States Geological Survey. The tremor prompted a tsunami warning for Indonesia, as well as for Malaysia and the Philippines. The United States Tsunami Warning System indicated a possible threat in the area, anticipating waves of between 0.3 and one metre along the coasts of Indonesia, although the warning has now been deactivated.
