International reactions to the US attacks on Venezuela and the capture of Maduro.

Leaders from different nations have responded to the attacks by the United States against Venezuela and the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, expressed his administration’s concern over the explosions in Caracas and other areas of Venezuela, which Maduro has described as a military aggression by the United States. In a statement, Petro indicated that the Colombian Government is worried about reports of explosions and unusual airborne activity in Venezuela, as well as the rising tension in the region. Previously, the Colombian leader asserted that Caracas was under attack and stressed that the OAS and the UN must urgently convene to address the situation. Currently, Caracas is being bombarded. Petro reiterated Colombia’s commitment to the principles of the UN, particularly regarding respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries, and stated that his administration disapproves of any unilateral military action that could worsen the situation or endanger civilians. Petro informed about the increase in security measures along the border with Venezuela to prepare for a possible influx of refugees from that nation, following the attack by the United States on Caracas and other locations, as well as the detention of Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Petro conveyed that public forces are being deployed to the border and all available assistance is being activated in anticipation of a possible arrival of refugees.
