Tehran.- The authorities in Iran have not accounted for the number of fatalities in the protests in the country, although they acknowledge that there are casualties, according to government sources in Tehran. The sources indicated that they do not have a total figure for the deceased and that there have been fatalities. According to these sources, the process of identifying the bodies is ongoing, which complicates the possibility of making estimates. The organisation Iran Human Rights reported that at least 3,428 protesters have lost their lives during the protests against the government in Iran, as a result of the repression by state forces, while thousands have suffered injuries. Iran has reported the deaths of at least 150 members of the security forces, of which 100 were buried in a funeral in Tehran that turned into a demonstration of support for the Government. The authorities of Iran claim that the protests began due to economic demands and were carried out peacefully until 8 January, at which point they became violent due to the intervention of external agents.
Iranian authorities admit that there are «many dead» in the protests.
