Tokyo. This Saturday, the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, and Japan’s Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, announced the formation of a new strategic alliance in cybersecurity, wind and nuclear energy, through the signing of several memoranda of understanding. They committed to exploring other areas of collaboration, such as space exploration and artificial intelligence. Starmer mentioned in a press conference that the goals for this collaboration are to foster growth and economic strength through technology and innovation, energy and trade. He highlighted that Japan is an investor in the renewable energy sector in the UK and that both nations see opportunities to advance in offshore wind energy, in addition to strengthening their cooperation in nuclear energy. In recent years, Japan has increased the share of nuclear energy in its energy mix to reduce its dependence on imports and achieve its decarbonisation targets.
Japan and the United Kingdom strengthen their alliance in cybersecurity, critical minerals, and energy.
