Jorge Azcón, President of Aragon and candidate of the Popular Party, is seeking re-election in the elections on 8 February. Azcón, born in Zaragoza in 1973, holds a law degree and a master’s in Urbanism from the University of Zaragoza. He assumed the presidency of the Government of Aragon in 2023, having previously served as the mayor of the city. He aspires to retain his position in these early and independent elections. He justifies this call as an act of political coherence following a standstill in the budget. He states that one cannot govern without a budget, which is crucial for improving the quality of life in Aragon. The approval of the budget will be a requirement for the formation of the government after 8 February. He will seek to have a budget approved that reflects the majority emerging from the elections.
