Labour proposes a 3.1% increase in the minimum wage in Spain, up to 1,221 gross euros.

The Ministry of Labour has proposed a 3.1% increase in the minimum interprofessional wage (SMI) for the year 2026, which would result in an increase of the SMI from 1,184 to 1,221 gross euros per month. Employers and trade unions have agreed to analyse the proposal and present it to their governing bodies for consideration, according to Joaquín Pérez Rey, Secretary of State for Employment, at a press conference this Wednesday. The Ministry of Labour has expressed its desire to investigate, alongside the Ministry of Finance, the option of relaxing the de-indexation rules related to the impact of wages on public contracts.
