Washington (EFE).- This Thursday, María Corina Machado, the opposition leader in Venezuela, presented the Nobel Peace Prize medal to the President of the U.S., Donald Trump, accompanied by a message of «gratitude» from the Venezuelan people for his efforts in the pursuit of «their freedom.» Machado used a frame to present the Nobel medal that she gifted to the president. At the top of the frame, she wrote: «in appreciation for your leadership in promoting peace.» She also mentioned that this gesture represents the recognition of the Venezuelan people for his efforts to advance towards «their freedom.» Machado recounted to the president an event involving the Marquis of Lafayette, a French military officer who joined the Army of the thirteen colonies during the American War of Independence, and Simón Bolívar, the hero of Venezuela’s independence and other South American countries. The Venezuelan politician noted that «200 years ago» Lafayette gifted Bolívar a medal that bore the image of George Washington, leader of the American revolutionaries and subsequently the first president of that nation. «From that moment on, Bolívar kept that medal throughout his life.»
