New York.- This Saturday, the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, was taken to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where he will remain detained, after landing by helicopter in Manhattan, according to local media reports. The helicopter departed from a heliport in Manhattan heading to the detention centre following the processing of the Venezuelan leader at a federal facility associated with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, as reported by The New York Times and CNN. A convoy of police vehicles accompanied Maduro from the heliport to the prison. The official rapid response account of the White House shared a video showing his arrest and transfer. The account Rapid Response 47 wrote on the social network X about the video: «Arrested and escorted», showing Maduro walking down a corridor with a blue carpet marked «DEA NYD». In the video, Maduro appears to be wishing someone a «good evening and a prosperous New Year». Today, Maduro arrived in the city on a helicopter that landed in an area by the Hudson River, near 31st Street, on the west side of Manhattan, after being previously transported by military plane to an airport in the north of the state.
Maduro is transferred to a federal prison following his arrival in New York, according to media reports.
