María Corina Machado, the opposition leader of Venezuela, affirmed that Delcy Rodríguez, the interim president of Venezuela, has no agreement with the American president, Donald Trump; her role is reduced to following orders and she does not act on behalf of the Venezuelan people. «Delcy is following instructions, she is not participating in an agreement,» Machado declared at a press conference in Washington, recalling that in previous attempts at dialogue, chavismo had always managed to achieve what it wanted. According to Machado, the American operation on 3 January aimed at capturing the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, demonstrated that it was necessary to have a tangible threat, an effective force to provoke change in Venezuela. The opposition leader emphasised that Delcy Rodríguez, who was Maduro’s vice president, feels fear towards President Trump.
María Corina Machado says that Delcy Rodríguez only «follows orders» from Trump and does not represent Venezuela.
