María Guardiola fails to secure the investiture in Extremadura after Vox votes against her.

Mérida (EFE).- The acting president of Extremadura, María Guardiola, has not succeeded in being re-elected to lead the regional government due to Vox’s rejection, although this party remains willing to negotiate an agreement. The Vox Parliamentary Group had indicated that it would not support Guardiola in her candidacy for the presidency of the Junta of Extremadura during the first vote on Wednesday in the Assembly, due to the absence of an agreement that would enable a change in policies and provide guarantees for its implementation. «The decision will be a yes or a no, as there is no room for ambiguity.» «If an agreement is reached, the response will be affirmative, and if not, it will be negative. At this moment, there is no agreement,» stated Óscar Fernández, spokesperson for this formation, during his speech in the investiture debate. However, he indicated that they are still open to reaching that agreement based on proposals that, according to the PP, are well understood. Thus, the deadline for negotiations is set for this Friday, when, after 48 hours, a second attempt will take place in which only a simple majority will be required, which could be achieved with Vox’s abstention.
